Technical skilling for underserved youth

Cognizant Foundation has adopted “Technical skilling for underserved youth” as one of its programmes under Livelihood. Under this programme, deserving underserved youth undergo short-term skill training programmes that offer skill-building, life skills training and job placements. The candidates come from economically and socially disadvantaged backgrounds, both rural and urban.

The candidates undergo skill training in their chosen trade, basic English, Computer literacy and life skills. Hands-on training, and on the job training, in some cases, complement classroom sessions. On successful completion of training, the trained candidates are assisted for job placements in entry-level jobs. A minimum of 70% to 75% of the trained candidates get job placements. This support helps the youth to become economically independent and support themselves and their families.

In the last few years, the Foundation has implemented various skills training projects in Telangana, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu and West Bengal, in partnership with Pipal Tree Foundation, Mumbai, Pratham Education Foundation, Mumbai and Social Empowerment and Economic Development Society (SEEDS), New Delhi.

The Foundation has supported skill training in the following trades – CNC Operation, Construction, Electrical and Welding. Over 1200 candidates have benefited from this programme.
